Beaches

Santorini is well known for having some of the best beaches in Greece. Near the ancient site of Akrotiri is Red Beach which is famous for its black and red volcanic pebbles. Kamari Beach is in a stunning setting, dominated by Meso Vouno Rock and the Profitis Ilias Mountains which overlook it.

Wine Tour

How about trying something a bit different…what about taking a wine tour? The island has an excellent reputation for wine production and there are certainly plenty of varieties of white, rose and red wines to sample at the many wineries.

Sailing

Sailing around the island is a fantastic way to appreciate the beauty of Santorini. There are many sailing companies to choose from, but probably the easiest way is to take a day excursion on a luxury catamaran. The views from the sea are breathtaking with whitewashed villages perched high on the hills and mountains.

More About Santorini

Santorini was once a volcanic island which was rocked by a massive eruption leaving lava-formed cliffs and black beaches surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea. It has to be one of the most stunning of the Greek Islands - a real picture-postcard destination, with small picturesque villages, white houses set into the volcanic cliffs, arched roofs, blue domes and breathtaking sunsets. A number of resorts are to be found in Santorini, the most famous being Oia, which offers amazing views of the Caldera, luxury boutique hotels and a fantastic choice of restaurants and shops that line a pedestrianised cliff-top walkway. Kamari has a charming promenade and is popular with both families and couples. Thassos has interesting historical attractions including 12th Century churches and the ruins of the Old Town. Getting around is easy as the bus service operates regularly and covers the whole island. Taxis are also plentiful and you can take a boat tour to explore neighbouring islands if you wish. Car hire is the best way to get around under your own steam but be aware that roads can be winding and very narrow in places. There are plenty of tours you can take - maybe you‘d like to know more about the island's wineries or experience a luxury sunset boat trip in Oia. You could take in some history at the lovely village of Akrotiri which has a major archaeological site showing a prehistoric settlement or you could travel to the famous Red Beach - the most photographed beach in Santorini.
