Magical Madagascar

Magical Madagascar

Madagascar is a fascinating destination and if you are in to your wildlife - you will be in heaven! Madagascar has a tropical climate made up of two distinct seasons. November to March (their summer) is hot, with variable rainfall; April to October (their winter) is mostly dry and mild. The main cyclone season is in February and March, so most tours run between April and November. Lots of people ask "Where is the best place to see lemurs?" Well Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is one of my favourites and it is just a three-hour drive east from Antananarivo (the capital). In Andasibe, you can often be lucky enough to spot up to 11 species of lemur, including the largest, the indri indri. If you are in the forest at either dusk or dawn, these unusual creatures emit an eerie, whale-like howl, which echoes through the forest. If you are slightly more adventurous, Mantadia offers you the opportunity to visit a virtually untouched and primary rainforest. The walking trails here are much more demanding, but they offer you the chance to search for even more unusual and rare species, which is exciting - so really worth the effort!
