Heritage Awali - Day 7 Part 1

Today, with the sun shining we are able to explore one of the Awali's 'jewels in the crown'...it's golf course! We know absolutely nothing about golf!...but this resort is positively revered by the huge numbers of golfers it attracts from all over the world...many of whom are here with us now! It has been a miserable week for them, the weather has had a massive impact on their opportunity to play...the course has been flooded and the groundsmen have been working around the clock to take the best possible care of it in these challenging conditions. it is an 18 hole championship golf course, and has the honour to host the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open in May...about which everyone is super excited... I am told by the many golfers who I spoke to that this is a fantastic course, and that it is challenging, which is a good thing... Much of the golf is complimentary for those staying in the Heritage Resorts, although there are some nominal charges for equipment. Additionally there are complimentary golf clinics and reasonably priced lessons and tuition courses on offer. I can get full details if any of my readers request it. Not understanding much of what I have seen I have listed from the Heritage golfing leaflet the following features and facilities... A 30 stands double sided grass driving range with fairway bunker and rough area A perfect chipping and pitching green to improve your short game (bunker, slopes...) 1000m2 putting green 9 holes par 3, perfect to learn directly on the course. Ideal for beginners Matthieu Millet, the French state-certified PGA Pro, in residence for the last 8 years Many of the golfers we talked to return year after year to play at this course, which speaks for itself.... As for Clive and I, we sat on the verandah of the lovely club house and enjoyed the most delicious lunch with stunning views over the course, and have decided that we too can see the attraction!
