Have you been to Dubai yet?

I have visited Dubai on a number of occasions, the first time over ten years ago. On my first visit I remember leaving the airport with relative ease and not noticing any real resort development until we reached our hotel. On my second visit we stayed at The famous Jumeiriah Beach Hotel. It was just before the World Cup was due to take place and the hotel had previously played host to a number of the players as they made their last minute preparations. The hotel was amazing - an our room offered spectacular views of the marina. The restaurants offered a diverse choice of super food and we enjoyed our first visit to my favourite water park (worldwide) The Wild Wadi. I have been back several times since but my first visit was the most memorable. Amazing rides powered by huge water jets shooting you up long and winding open passages that culminated in a  choice of which decent most floated your boat. The options seemed endless and with the amazing climate I enjoyed a return to childhood, eating fast food and then working off the calories trying to maintain some form of dignity as I hurtled down tubes and pipes into warm pools of water. Long days in the sun, much fun and laughter - this attraction was, in my humble opinion, as much for adults as for children - I simply loved it. I returned to Dubai a few years later and made sure I picked a hotel where entry to the Wild Wadi was included. It was on this trip that I discovered my favourite Jumeirah property - The Mina A' Salem. This boutique hotel has the most spacious and beautiful rooms that at that time I had every had the pleasure of staying in. This hotel is relative small - 292 rooms. The team at the hotel were superb and getting around by boat was magical. This is a the place to stay if you are looking for luxury and a more intimate atmosphere. Further visits gave me the opportunity to sample the delights of the the Al Qasr Hotel and the spectacular Dar Al Masaf - the summer houses that offer more privacy but spectacular luxury and space. When you visit Dubai you need to experience the shopping. Make a list - take on your own "The Apprentice" challenge where you discover the delights of the different Malls - offering famous brands including Chanel, Mulberry and lot's, lot's more. Visit the Spice Souk and spend some time taking in the sights, smells and sounds of this colourful market. Visit the Gold Souk - take your sunglasses and prepare to be dazzled - I have never seen bling like it (and it's all for real!!) You can have a piece of jewellery crafted or barter for a piece already on offer. If you want to experience the lesser known part of Dubai ask your taxi driver to take you to el Karama and marvel at what goods you can find in this Harry Potter like bazaar! This year I am venturing back to Dubai after a gap of nearly seven years. This time I am off to The Atlantis to swim with the dolphins and to check out their water-park and I have to say I can hardly wait..........
